To be able to focus on the book, Deb and I decided to go on a writing retreat. What a good idea! Deb chose Beesands on the recommendation of a friend. The little lake you see is Widdecombe Ley, and Beesands is the collection of cottages just above it. Beesands was a fishing village, and you can still see the landmarks. This was the engine used to help haul the nets back to shore with the catch. Needs a little work. When we first arrived, it was a lovely day, with fluffy clouds, and a gentle sea. Time for a walk (or even a kite flying session)! The first night was simply breathtaking. I can't remember the last time I could see the Milky Way with the naked eye. I just wish I was able to capture it in its glory. The first two pictures were from my camera. It tried, but... The third picture was from Deb's iPhone and shows off a bit more. Before our next dark-sky holiday, I'm going to get a phone with a real camera. It wasn't always sunny weather, but it was always beautiful. That didn't stop us from getting lots of work done on the book. We were always able to send for help though, so that's comforting. It wasn't, in truth, all working. We also took advantage of the walks around there a bit and looking over to Slapton Sands. Looking out to sea first thing in the morning, you never knew what to expect...a glorious sunrise, or the night's storms running away to hide. What a lovely (and yes, productive) time!
